- Addictive Behaviours

- In this section we will outline some of the more common (and not so common), characteristic behaviours and substances associated with addiction. Addicts will typically exhibit the behaviour below in varying combinations and degrees of intensity:-
Noticeable traits include odours (cigarette or marijuana smoke)-
- Here are some maybe not so obvious:
• Fatigue
• Uncontrolled cravings
• Wearing long sleeves (to cover needle marks) in hot weather
• Close association with other addicts
• Thoughts, actions and behaviour that are 'addiction' focused
• Nasal congestion (sniffing, nose bleeds)
• Eye changes (redness, glassy, wears sunglasses when not needed, etc…)
• Behavioural changes (moodiness, mood swings with hyperactive, lethargy, violence, - paranoia, secretive, confused thoughts and actions)
• Denial of the addiction
• Memory loss - • Confusion surround the passage of time
• Stealing or inappropriate borrowing & spending
• Untidy appearance
• Absenteeism from work, school etc.
• Sudden changes in educational/professional performance
• Withdrawal from normal activities, friends, family ...
• Physical withdrawal symptoms: nausea, sweating, chills, convulsions, anxiety, nervousness, depression, headaches, hallucinations, -
diarrhoea, restlessness / sleep disturbances, shaking (uncontrolled) and sensitivity.
