Fraxel laser is a new skin treatment laser which has been recently approved by
the FDA. Fraxel laser promotes the skins own natural healing process by
triggering the body’s own natural production of new collagen and skin cells. The
laser has been approved by the FDA to treat a range of conditions including melasma, acne scars, age spots and facial wrinkles.
Fraxel laser helps erase excessive pigmentation, fine lines and scars by
producing thousands of tiny columns deep in the skin known as microscopic
treatment zones which eliminate old epidermal pigment cells.
Treatment
Although each session will have an effect on the skin condition being treated, studies show that on
average an effective regime consists of 3-4 sessions of Fraxel laser treatment,
with each session being spaced out 2 to 4 weeks apart. Optimal improvement is
usually visible in about 2 to 3 months.
Risks
Swelling and redness are the most common side effects of fraxel laser treatment.
Swelling also occurs in some instances but it usually resolves with 48 hours.
Skin redness also usually resolves within a few days. The risk of infection and
scarring are low with fraxel laser treatment.
