Mascara is one of the most effective makeup tools. It is a great eye opener that emphasizes the lashes, making them look long and lustrous.
- Mascara has long been used to add mystery and allure to the eyes. Apart from the many choices of colour, many mascara brands promise to thicken, lengthen, darken, add volume and condition your lashes. They are also available in waterproof and regular formulas.
- How to Apply Mascara
- Using a proper application technique when applying mascara is extremely important if your are going to achieve a finished look. Your mascara should cover your lashes from the root to the tip.
- When applying mascara to your upper lashes, wiggle the mascara brush back and forth at the base of the lashes to deposit colour before rolling the brush through your lashes. Coat lashes from the very base to the tips with full strokes, will create a thicker looking lash with a well defined base with separated ends.
- Hold the mascara brush vertically when applying mascara to lower lashes, running it from side to side. Be extremely careful as to avoid smudging the under eye area.
- When applying more than one coat, combing your lashes through between coats, tol help prevent clumping.
- Clear mascara can be used to create a natural effect or on the brows for extra control.
- Only apply mascara to your lower lids, if you are wearing eyeliner on the lower lids, as applying it to unlined lower lid can create an undesirable spidery effect.
- Mascara Tips
- If your mascara is new and the deposit on the brush is plentiful, tissue off the brush before applying to prevent smudging.
- To get more product on the mascara brush try twirling the brush. Pumping it will cause the product to dry out sooner.
- Try experimenting with different colours of mascara – maybe brown, navy or green.
- Always use less mascara on your lower lashes.
- If your mascara thickens when it reaches the end of tube, place the tube in warm water. This will help to make mascara thinner. Never add water to the tube, as this can result in the formulation of bacteria.
- Always remove all traces of mascara, with a product that is designed for the purpose, before going to bed; this will help prevent dryness and/or breakage of your lashes.
